Digital Watercolor Series: Conclusion

I hope that y’all enjoyed this little series and remember to keep tagging me on Instagram (@bossybrushstrokes) with all of the beautiful things that you are creating. In conclusion, keep practicing! The greatest part about having a creative outlet like this is that you are never done learning and you can constantly be pushing yourself to perfect your style and try out others styles as well. If you have all of the brushes I mentioned in this series, MIX THEM TOGETHER. Yessss. There is no rule saying you can only use one creators brush set. Use what you’ve purchased to your advantage and mix things together. Community > Competition y’all! The brush sets I’ve mentioned are all so different and clearly, you probably need them all if you’ve gotten this far into the series. Use what you love from one and mix it with your favorite from another. Keep creating and stay bossy, y’all!

iPad Watercolor Details: Lynn Haven Design’s Brush Kit

Welcome to the last brush set in my favorite watercolor brush series made by the wonderful @LynnHavenDesigns on Instagram. For $16 on Etsy, you can get a set of 8 brushes and a PDF download explaining step-by-step (in a lot of detail) her technique of achieving her digital watercolor. Her kit is truly unlike any other I have found and that is what makes it so amazing in my opinion. The brushes are SO unique and you’ll even get 5 mock-ups with your purchase. Don’t take my word for it though- Scroll through her Instagram and see all of the amazing things that she creates using them.

In the post above, I used a stock photo and then added layers on top of it to give it a “framed” look. I’ve been really loving this technique to add something to my posts on Instagram and gives me a little “cheat” to creating a color palette by using the colors in the photo. I actually commented on one of Lynn’s posts complimenting how amazing her color choices were and she told me that Pinterest has been the answer and it really has! So if you’re like me and really struggle with color choices, try searching color palettes on Pinterest for some great ideas.

If you purchase Lynn’s kit, tag her in what you create on Instagram (and tag me too because I want to see all of the amazing things y’all create). Check out her Etsy, even if you’re not a Procreate user, because she has a ton of prints available for purchase, too!

iPad Watercolors: My Favorite Set of Freebies

If you’ve never heard of @abbie_uproot on Instagram, I am so sorry BUT I am here to make your life so much better. On her blog, she has TONS of free Procreate tutorials, brushes, palettes, canvas setups and the list goes on. It’s almost endless.

(Do you like my attempted root pun? #sorrynotsorry)

While this post isn’t a tutorial, I have to share all the watercolor resources that she offers. She breaks it down so well and teaches you how to get that textured look in Procreate. ALL. FOR. FREE. Yes, I know, she’s basically an angel. From written breakdowns to video tutorials- you’ll probably find something that tickles your fancy.

In the above post, I used TWO brushes of hers. Yep. Only two. I also used her pre-made textured canvas which can be found here. For the lettering, I used “Abbie’s Watercolour Lettering” and for the plants, I used the “Way Watery” brush. These brushes are amazing because the texture is built into the brushes as well so even on a completely blank canvas, you’ll still be getting that “realistic” effect (but you don’t have to worry about that because she gives you a textured canvas AND breaks it down on how to make your own if you’re wanting learn #blessed). I also used the “Way Watery” brush in smudge mode (that nice mystery thing that is between the brush and eraser buttons on the interface) to blend the colors together more when painting the potted plants.

Download her brushes and create beautiful things but **BE WARNED** you will spend all night scrolling through ALL that she offers and it will be so worth it.

Digital Watercolor on the iPad Pro

Hey y’all!

Faux watercolor on my iPad Pro is probably my favorite thing to play around with. As much as Procreate offers, it is a bit lacking in the watercolor area BUT it is still totally doable. There’s also an infinite number of ways to do it depending on what your personal style is. Thus, this digital watercolor series is born. When I posted on my story and asked what blogs you wanted to see, watercolor was what I got the most.

I’m going to use the next few days to introduce different brush sets at different price points (beginning with FREE) by different artists in this community that I take so much inspiration from. You’ll be able to see a few different styles and techniques and then you’ll be able to decide which brushes you may want to download and try for yourself! (Hint: ALL OF THEM!)

I am by no means an expert and remember that our work will vary because we are two different people but I hope I can give you a place to start and a place to find a little inspiration.
